Sri Biswanath Chowdhury of Revolutionary Socialist Party has been functioning as Minister-in-Charge, Department of Jails, West Bengal since 1987. He has been elected from Balurghat Assembly Constituency of Dakshin Dinajpur District seven times in a row since 1977. Apart from the Deptt of Jails, he is also the Minister-in-Charge of Women & Child Development and Social Welfare Departments of Government of West Bengal.

Sri Samar Ghosh, IAS
Addl. Chief Secretary, Home & Deptt of Correctional Administration

Sri Samar Ghosh, a 1977 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre who assumed charge as Addl Chief Secretary, Home on 30th April, 2010 has also been entrusted with additional charge of Deptt of Correctional Administration. Some of the important charges held by him in the past include the charge of District Magistrate of Murshidabad District apart from those of Principal Secretary, Finance Deptt and Addl Chief Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Deptt. With his assuming charge of the Deptt of Correctional Administration, the ongoing reforms are likely to get a boost.

Sri Banshi Dhar Sharma, IPS
ADGP & IG of Correctional Services, West Bengal

A 1980 Batch IPS Officer of West Bengal cadre, Sri B.D.Sharma has held a number of important charges in Police Deptt including the charge of Addl. S.P., Barrackpore, SP, Murshidabad and South-24 Parganas Districts and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Calcutta Police for 5 years before being promoted as D.I.G of Police. He also worked in BSF as DIG at Jaisalmer and as IG in Jammu & Kashmir - both charges being on Indo-Pak border. He took charge as Inspector General of Correctional Services, West Bengal on Nov 7, 2005 and promoted as ADG of Police on January 23, 2009 while continuing to hold the same charge as ADGP & IG of Correctional Services.
